Here at Gastro we’re incredibly excited about what we’re going to be doing over the next few months with regards to pop-up restaurants. They give us the chance to flex our creative culinary muscles to design exciting menus which harness seasonal ingredients in their prime in some of the most exciting and unique venues across the South East.
We’re starting our pop-up series with a bang at the end of August with our Regency Brighton @ Angel House by Gastro event – pairing a bespoke, fine dining six course tasting menu with one of the foremost Regency period properties in the country.
Regency Brighton @ Angel House sees Gastro’s team of chefs look towards the food of the Regency period to design a modern menu based around the ingredients and dishes on the tables of the first Regency residents. Thanks to records of the period, our team have been able to combine the traditional fare with modern techniques to create a one-off six course tasting menu.
The menu will be accompanied by tasting notes documenting the history of each element to guide the diner through the evening which, when paired with the stunning surroundings, will create a truly unique event.
Angel House – or 1 Brunswick Terrace to use its full address – sits opposite the Angel Peace statue on the Brighton and Hove border. Built in the 1820s by renowned Regency architect Charles Busby, the property was one of the first in the Brunswick estate development, and may well have been used as a show home for potential purchasers in the wider Brunswick Square development.
The property has gone through many changes in the intervening years, serving various roles including a family home, a dentist surgery, and perhaps most notably selection of letting rooms run by a well-known local actress with a rumoured clientele including some of the most notable artists and writers of the period. The property’s current owner invested has three years of care and attention bringing Angel House up to its current stunning condition.
Tickets are on sale now on our Shopify channel here. Seating will be mixed, with block booking available on tables of six or more (please specify in booking notes at point of purchase). Dietary requirements can be catered for on request. Full details of the menu will be issued in advance of the event.
